Matt Ridley trio with special guest Jason Yarde
8.00 p.m. £10
Formed in 2011, the Matt Ridley trio garnered a reputation on the London scene, playing the leader’s unique and exciting compositions. In 2012 they recorded an album, augmented by celebrated composer and saxophonist Jason Yarde, to be released on Whirlwind recordings in October 2013.By fusing the modal and rhythmic elements of Middle-Eastern music with the harmonic complexities of jazz, Ridley’s composition ‘Siddhartha’ was born, and what followed was a stream of ideas which aligned themselves into the other music on the album, with influences as diverse as funk, modern jazz, and 20th century minimalism. The core of the band comprises the award-winning pianist John Turville, the highly musical (not to mention fiercely virtuosic) drumming talents of George Hart, with Ridley at the helm. The trio soars through the leaders’ genre-bending improvisational territory with wit and aplomb, no matter if the musical terrain is tricky or serene, creating a unique sound world unlike any unit working today. Special guest saxophonist and globally recognized composer Jason Yarde perfectly assimilates the feeling of Ridley’s compositions, singing the melodies from the depths of his soul, and improvising in a way that few saxophonists working in jazz could conceive.

Comedy at The Edge: Justin
Moorhouse – Justin Time 8pm £15.00
Dear Potential Ticket Buyer
Why should you come and see my show?
Well firstly because it’ll be funny, and to be honest that’s
the only reason. I’m not going to pretend my comedy can change the world. I’m not promising nudity or fire breathing. That can be arranged on request – though. It’ll just be me telling you stories and jokes to make you laugh. You might have seen me with that tiger face in that programme from ages ago. I won’t have that tiger face on. It was a long time ago. You might have seen me doing stand-up on your television, it’ll be a lot like that, but more of it and in 3D. Expect stories about Owls, Family Fun Days, and my dog. She’s great. I’ll probably also moan about my kids. I’ll only be joking though, they’re great too. It’s all new for 2013 and it’s happening all over the place. Be brilliant if you came. See you soon, Justin
